Our Values

  • Values of Our Fraternity Community
Fraternity Life is one of the many opportunities for involvement and growth available for students at Bradley University. Greek organizations enhance the education of the whole person – intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Bradley fraternities strive to achieve the greatest potential from each member and reach common goals together. Fraternity Life offers opportunities for community service, philanthropy, academic success, leadership, campus involvement, personal growth, social interaction, and the development of lifelong friendships.

    Friendship (Brotherhood)
During the first semester of your association, fraternity activities are designed to orient you with your chapter’s history and traditions. Activities including retreats, service projects, meetings, and study programs will help you to build a strong foundation for your lifelong involvement and membership in Fraternity Life.

One of the most enjoyable parts of joining a fraternity involves making new friends and forming bonds that will last long after college. You will not only learn to live with others, but, through sharing the same experiences, environment, and interests, you will develop a special closeness to those around you. As friends, they will share your successes, happiness, and occasional evenings just relaxing at the chapter house. Brotherhood means more than wearing Greek letters, attending meetings, and going to social events. It is a feeling and sense of belonging. It is the feeling of being yourself and being respected for your individuality. Brotherhood is the making of friendships that will last a lifetime.  It is the feeling of knowing you can count on your brothers in good times and in challenging times.

  • Scholarship
Scholarship, academics, and grades are the mainstays of college life, and the fraternities at Bradley University recognize the importance of academic success. Each fraternity has a minimum grade requirement for joining and initiation.

Bradley Greeks want you to do well in school, and there are programs in place to help. Each chapter has its own academic programs to ensure its members are academic leaders, and many chapters have study hours to assist you in time management and to create an environment to foster excellence. Peer tutoring, study buddies, and scholastic awards are among the academic initiatives within our community.

    Service and Philanthropy
The Greek Community’s interests and concerns go beyond the confines of campus life. Fraternities sponsor a multitude of activities each year to impact the local community and to earn money for their philanthropies or identified causes. Chapters also donate their time to national and local community service projects.

In addition to supporting other chapters’ own philanthropy events, IFC sponsors a number of philanthropies and community service projects throughout the year. Last semester, the Greek community worked closely with Volunteer Network to help sponsor a campus clean up. Additionally, a blood drive and a community service project are part of Greek Week each fall.

Many individual Greek men also volunteer in community programs such as Adopt-a-School, Habitat for Humanity, and the Peoria Area Food Bank. The opportunities you will encounter in Fraternity Life to help benefit the community are endless. The desire and ability to give of yourself is one of the most important qualities you will develop while being part of a fraternity.

    Leadership
Membership in a fraternity provides numerous opportunities for leadership development. As a chapter officer or coordinator of a chapter event, you can further develop your leadership skills. Each chapter has committee structures that allow you to be involved in many operational aspects of the fraternity.

You will also be encouraged by your chapter to become involved in campus-wide activities. Fraternity Life is a great springboard to campus involvement, including Student Senate, special-interest clubs and organizations, pre-professional organizations, Activities Council at Bradley University, intramural sports, and many others. Striking a balance between academics and social activities is an important part of college life. Involvement in both areas provides a well-rounded college experience, which is an appealing asset to potential employers.

    Networking
Being Greek also provides a resource network when seeking employment. Greek Alumni understand the Greek experience of being both a team player and an individual; the desire to excel, both in and out of the classroom; and the commitment to give something back to the community. Greek Alumni often hire graduating fraternity members, and in this changing world, it is important to establish relationship with others beyond the boundaries of the university. Through interaction with Alumni, you can begin building bridges.
